The Cape Charles Police Department responded to a wide range of incidents during the past week, according to a report delivered by Police Chief Pruitt to town officials.
Weekly calls for service included reports of an unruly juvenile, assault, illegal dumping, trespassing, loud music complaints, welfare checks, vehicle accidents, a missing person, a runaway child, and a possible suicide. Officers also responded to four unsecured business doors, assisted EMS on five occasions, aided in a stabbing investigation alongside the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office, and participated in buoy installation operations.
The department’s April 2026 statistics show officers handled 102 calls for service during the month. Police made two felony arrests and three misdemeanor arrests while issuing 79 traffic summonses and 10 parking tickets. Officers also conducted 90 building checks and completed 57 foot patrols throughout town.
Chief Pruitt reported that all officers completed Virginia Criminal Information Network, or VCIN, security and privacy training through the Virginia State Police during the month. Additional departmental training focused on warrant arrests.
Among the arrests reported in April:
- April 5: A male subject was arrested on Mason Avenue for public intoxication.
- April 7: A male subject was arrested on a felony fraud charge.
- April 18: A male subject was arrested on charges of assault and battery against a family member and felony strangulation.
- April 30: A male subject was arrested for probation violation.
Town officials continue to emphasize building checks and foot patrols as part of ongoing community policing efforts in Cape Charles.

If a suicide is “possible” but not “confirmed”, does that mean that a “homicide” although not “confirmed”, is also “possible”?
