CAPE CHARLES, Va. — As of January 1, the Town of Cape Charles has officially resumed direct management of the Town Harbor, marking the end of a four-year period during which operations were contracted out.
With the transition back to in-house management, the town has appointed Paula Davis as the new harbormaster. Davis brings decades of experience in harbor operations and maritime management, promising a fresh perspective and renewed focus on the harbor’s development.
“I’m excited to bring new energy to the Town Harbor and to rebrand this vital part of the basin,” Davis said. “We want to create a welcoming and vibrant space for both residents and visitors.”
The Town Harbor has long been a central feature of Cape Charles’ waterfront, serving as a hub for recreational boaters, commercial fishing, and tourism. Town officials expressed optimism about Davis’ leadership and the potential to enhance harbor operations and community engagement.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to stop by the harbor and meet the new harbormaster. Davis and her team are already working on plans to improve services and strengthen the harbor’s role as a key asset for the town.
This is odd. I’ve never heard of an operation that isn’t both more profitable and run better by the private sector. Remember what President Regan said. I smell something behind the scenes was more of a priority than what is best for both the citizens (taxpayers) and the boating community.
