Pet of the Week: Meet Cecilia

Hello, I am Cecilia. Quite the beauty. A little bit shy, but I warm up very quickly. I am affectionate and playful and have been socialized with other cats, and dogs.

I would do fine in a home with children. I am 9 months old, spayed and up to date on my vaccinations.

You can stop by the shelter any Tuesday-Saturday 10a.m-2:30p.m. and meet me in the cat room. If you think you may be interested in adopting me you can fill out an adoption application while you are there.

Pet of the Week: Collette Still Needs a Home

Hi, I am Collette, a beautiful female Shepard and Collie mix. I am around 7 years old. I have been with the SPCA for a while as I came in heartworm positive, and had to finish treatment. Once that was taken care of I was spayed and am up to date on my vaccines.

I weigh in at 73 pounds and am very long. I am not a big fan of cats, but have met another smaller dog here and did well, so I may get along with another dog.

Not a lot is known about my history before being transferred to the SPCA, but I am a very unique gal. I am a little skeptical of head rubs at first, but I do enjoy love and affection once I get to know you.

I am quite fond of toys, and trying to discover what you have in your hands. I am not big at jumping up on you, but when treats are involved I can get a little excited.

I will probably do well in a home with older children. Once you get to know me I am very entertaining and am looking to lounge around with you. I do seem to enjoy brushing, and my long coat will require some grooming.

Pet of the Week: Bella Needs a Home

Hi I am Bella a 2 year old lab mix female. I am spayed and am up to date on my vaccines. I am somewhat short in stature, but weigh a compact 55 lbs.

I am very clean in my kennel so I was definitely house trained. I enjoy toys and human contact. I am super smart and know how to sit for a treat, and could easily learn more tricks.

I am extremely energetic when I am enjoying my recess outside. I seem to enjoy running up and down the fence with some of the dogs on the other side, so there may be another dog I can get along with in a home. It is uncertain how I would do in a home with cats.

I do seem to enjoy the staffs company when I am outside with them, and I do enjoy treats which could be helpful in learning new manners everyday.

I should be fine around children with some size to them, but I may be a little much for smaller children as I am learning to not jump up on you in greeting.

June Celebrated as National Microchip Month for Pets

CAPE CHARLES, VA — Pet owners are reminded to prioritize their furry friends’ safety this June, as the month is officially recognized as National Microchip Month. This annual observance aims to raise awareness about the importance of microchipping pets to help reunite lost animals with their families.

Why Microchip?

Microchipping is a simple, safe, and effective way to ensure pets can be identified if they go missing. A microchip, which is about the size of a grain of rice, is implanted under the pet’s skin. Each chip contains a unique identification number that is registered with a national database, providing crucial information that can help return lost pets to their owners.

Benefits of Microchipping

According to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), pets with microchips are significantly more likely to be returned to their owners than those without. The return-to-owner rate for microchipped dogs is over 52%, compared to 21% for non-microchipped dogs. For cats, the return rate is 38% for microchipped cats versus less than 2% for those without a chip.

Microchips can be obtained at our SPCA Eastern Shore on the days that the Mobile Neuter Scooter is scheduled to be at the shelter each month.

Pet of the Week: Naomi Still Needs a Home

Hi I am Naomi, a 4 year old hound mix. If you are interested in adopting me, and have an approved application, I may require more than one visit as I take a minute to warm up to strangers.

I weigh in at 35 pounds and am spayed and up to date on my vaccinations. I am clean in my kennel and it is believed I was house trained in my lifetime.

I do get along with some other dogs. It is uncertain how I would do in a home with cats. I am affectionate once I get to know you. I really enjoy sitting close to you on the couch.

I am small in stature and not very much bigger than Beagle size.

It will require some patience to get to know me, but once you do I am full of love.

Pet of the Week: Meet Toby

Hi, I am Toby, a now, 5-month-old male puppy. I was born in the shelter on December 16th, 2023. I am the last guy left of this sweet litter. I am well-socialized and will get along with other dogs, cats, and people.

I have adorable wiry hair and am full of puppy energy. I enjoy playtime with other dogs and toys. I need help with my potty training as I have never been in a home. I am neutered and up to date on my vaccinations.
I currently weigh about 25 lbs, but I am not expected to get too much bigger than I am right now. I will probably grow to be a medium-sized dog.

Pet of the Week: Meet CeeCee

Are you looking for a furry feline friend to add to your family? Look no further than CeeCee, a beautiful gray tabby some ginger splotches in addition to her white chin, chest, and legs. This American shorthair beauty enjoys lounging on the top shelf of the cat tower, where she can keep an eye on everything going on in the lobby.

CeeCee is an incredibly friendly and loving cat. As soon as you enter the room, she will greet you with a meow and come over to say hello and solicit some petting. She loves to play with wand toys and is always up for some interactive fun.

This sweet girl came to us front declawed and is very clean and well-groomed. When she first arrived at the shelter, she had severe wax build-up in her ears and a pronounced head tilt, but our dedicated staff has treated this issue and gotten rid of most of the wax. Now CeeCee’s head tilt is barely noticeable, and it doesn’t seem to cause her any problems or discomfort.

A little over 6 years old, this lovely lady is ready to leave us for her forever home. CeeCee is an easy-going and affectionate companion who will make a delightful addition to someone’s loving home. She is looking for a family who will give her the love and attention she deserves, and in return, she will provide endless cuddles and purrs.

Pet of the Week: Meet Kassady!

Hi, I am Kassady, the sweetest little Shih Tzu you’d ever want to meet. I just turned 10 years old. My parents took really good care of me, and I was groomed and fully vetted before my arrival at the SPCA. I am in very good health. I do have cherry eye in one eye, but it is currently just cosmetic and doesn’t seem to bother me.

I have a very friendly and happy-go-lucky attitude. I don’t seem to know strangers of any species. I greet people in the office here at the shelter quite frequently and had a good time meeting everyone at an event I went to representing the shelter. I enjoy my little bed and a blanket, but I’m not really into toys.

I am 100% food driven and motivated. It seems I wasn’t denied anything my family was eating, so there is no shame in my game on begging for some of your food.

I will need occasional grooming for the remainder of my life. I am very happy and interactive.

I would love to meet you and get to be friends. Just stop by the shelter during visiting hours (10:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday). Pet of the Week: JoJo Still Needs a Home

Hello, I am JoJo, a one-year-old 10-pound male chihuahua mix.

I am here with my sister TeTe and we are a bonded pair, so we are hoping to be adopted together. I am slightly more shy than her, but I do warm up very easily, as I tend to follow my sisters lead.

I am very loving and playful and full of energy as I am still rather young. I really enjoy playing with my toys. I like to get up on tall things outside when I am waiting to come in from recess. I like a good viewpoint.

I am well-rounded, vaccinated, and neutered. My sister is my best friend and we truly enjoy each others company, we give each other a bath and comfort one another, but are both somewhat outgoing and friendly.

Hi I am Patches, a 9-month-old female. I am spayed and up to date on my vaccinations. I am a little shy at first but very affectionate. I like to play a little, and will show you my affection pretty easily.

I will chirp at you in greeting, and I thoroughly enjoy Temptation treats. I have been socialized around dogs, children, and other cats.

Hi, I am Spot, a 2-year-old German Shepherd/Husky mix. I weigh in at around 60 lbs. I am a friendly guy who doesn’t really like to be away from people too long. I love attention and am very happy-go-lucky. I am fairly clean in my kennel.

Though at a glance I look very much like a Shepherd, closer inspection of my thick coat and blue eye give away my Husky mixture.

I just kind of aim to please. I really enjoy socialization and may do well with another dog. It is unknown how I would do in a home with cats. Children with some size and age should do well with me around. I do have manners, and I usually listen pretty well.

If you’d like to see me, you can come to the shelter and do a walkthrough of the kennel between 10:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. You could even pick up an adoption application while you’re there.
