MELFA, Va. — Chess players from across the region will gather at Eastern Shore Community College on Saturday, October 11, 2025, for the USCF-rated Autumn Chess Tournament.
The daylong event will be held in the Great Hall of the college’s Workforce Development Building at 29316 Lankford Highway in Melfa. Competition begins at 9:30 a.m. and runs through 6 p.m., with three rounds of play scheduled under a G60d5 time control format.
Entry fees are set at $10 for ESCC students, faculty, staff, and all players under 18, while other competitors will pay $15. Registration closes at 10 p.m. on October 10, though late registration will be available on site for an additional $10 fee. A current US Chess Federation membership is required to participate.
The tournament will feature a quad format, with prizes awarded to the top finishers in each group. First-place winners will take home $50, while second place earns $25. If a Swiss format is needed, third-place players will also be awarded $10.
Check-in and late registration will be open from 8:30 to 9:10 a.m. A lunch break is scheduled from 11:45 a.m. to 12:50 p.m., with food trucks and local dining options available for participants and spectators.
