The Planning Commission set January 3rd 2017 as the date for public hearing regarding a conditional use permit for a residential dwelling unit above the first floor commercial units at 3 Fig Street, the former Kellogg Building. According to the staff report, the structure “is in the 2 zoning district, which according to Article III, Section 3.7.C allows residential dwelling units “provided that no such dwelling is located at street level and all dwelling units have direct access to the street level(not access through commercial establishment on the first level).”

The Kellogg Building is the only example of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture in the Town of Cape Charles, and occupies a prominent site at the entrance to the historic district. I am glad that the Petras’ dream of opening a business and establishing their residence in this distinctive building. Cape Charles is a product of many newcomers to town, and I welcome the Petras’ and their considerable efforts and investment in our wonderful community.
What is happening with the Kellogg building??
We noticed the building on our first visit to CC this July. It looks like the project didn’t move forward?
Too bad—it’s a cool building needing a loving owner!
With comments like Harmons, and the acrimony shown towards “Come here’s(and bring badly needed money to a destitute area) I am not surprised that it did not go forward.
What is the status of the Kellog Building?
It is now being renovated. I believe it will be a restaurant.
