The Town of Cape Charles will hold the third Steering Committee meeting for its ongoing Railroad & Harbor Master Planning process on Tuesday, May 12, at 10 a.m. at the Cape Charles Civic Center, located at 500 Tazewell Avenue.
According to the meeting flyer, the session will focus on planning and progress updates, an economic and comparable communities analysis, and review of a draft framework for the master plan.
The master planning effort is being led by the Town in partnership with The Berkley Group and is aimed at creating a long-range vision for the town’s harbor, railroad corridor and surrounding waterfront properties.
The planning process has drawn strong public interest in recent months, particularly surrounding discussions involving the former rail yard, harbor redevelopment opportunities and “The Hump” railroad overpass on Old Cape Charles Road. Town officials have emphasized that the current process is exploratory and intended to gather public input and establish guiding principles for future development.
Previous steering committee meetings and public engagement sessions included discussions on economic development opportunities, waterfront access, tourism, transportation connections and preserving the historic character of the area.
