Lecture Series Saturday, June 18, 2016 :
Adaptive Reuse of Historic Structures: Reuse and repurposing is the ultimate in recycling. Speaker – Ruth Akright, Classic Property Resources; 9 am, Fee: $25/person
Rehabilitation Tax Credits and Standards of Rehabilitation: Learn what is available from both State and Federal Programs. Speaker: Jessica Ugarte, Department of Historic Resources, 10 am, Fee: $25/person
Landscaping Your Older Home: Speaker: Kim Allen, The Gardening Lady; 3 pm, Fee: $25/person. Kim will teach you how to recognize what plantings are appropriate for your home’s particular architectural style as well as what will grow best in your climate.
Workshops:
Milk Paint with Miss Flibbertigibet, Instructor: Lorraine Finkbeiner, A Certified MMSMP retailer & teacher, 11 am, Fee: $40/person. Enjoy learning to use Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint. The paint has been around for hundreds of years and is a natural, toxic free, green alternative for your home. Learn the history of milk paints, how to mix and apply and techniques for distressing & finishing. Take home a project to enjoy & use for future reference. Miss Mustard Seed’s products will be available for purchase as well as completed painted pieces.
Painted Floorcloths, Instructor: Cindy Walker, 1 pm, Fee: $40/person. Learn the history of these hand painted canvas rugs and why they are enjoying a revival. A durable floorcloth will protect floors and give years of pleasure and enjoyment with ease of maintenance and is ideal for those who have pets or allergies. You will explore the many steps involved in the entire process of creating these unique floor coverings. Students will take a completed project home.

Sears Kit Homes Walking Tour and Open Houses: A rare treat to tour these unique homes and explore the charming streets of Cape Charles. This is a ticketed event which benefits the Cape Charles Memorial Library and the Cape Charles Historical Society. Fee: $25/person. Tickets available at the door of the Trinity United Methodist Church Social Hall.
Vendor Trade Fair: This free event will be presented in the social hall of the Trinity United Methodist Church from 10am til 5pm featuring products and services for the old house homeowner. We’ll have lots of information for all our visitors to take home.
Additional activities for the day include: side walk sales at the Mason Avenue shops and an outdoor concert featuring the Air Force Band at the beautiful gazebo in Central Park at 7pm.
