Intensive On-Farm Construction Workshop Part 2 March 24 Birdsnest, VA
Melfa, Virginia β For immediate release. Join the Eastern Shore RC&D and Greenhouse Expert Dr. Chris Mullins from VSU Cooperative Extension as we put the βskinβ on a 48β x 30β Zimmerman high tunnel which was constructed during our two-day high tunnel intensive workshop in April.
High tunnels, also known as hoop houses, are plastic-covered greenhouses used for fruit and vegetable production. Their unique design allows growers to extend the growing season giving farmers increased marketing opportunities for commercial fruits and vegetables. High tunnels are frequently used by growers looking to expand production as well as traditional farmers seeking to diversify operations. Backyard growers may use high tunnels to generate part-time supplemental revenue streams or year-round kitchen gardens. No prior high tunnel experience is needed.

This workshop will start very early to make the best of the low wind morning hours. Weβll hit the ground running at 7:30 am and work through the morning with a break for a quick pot-luck meal around 11:00. Then weβll continue on and finish around 1:00 or 2:00 pm.
