The town responded Tuesday to a “visitor to the beach who came into contact with an unidentified object in the water off the town beach.” Due to this event, the town beach was closed from 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30, until 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 31.
According to the town, “The only thing that Navy EOD found during the investigation was the dredge pipe.” The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have been dredging and placing sand at the north end of the beach; the dredge pipe runs from the beach to the harbor channel.
The beach was re-opened at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday.
