Wachapreague, Va – The Commonwealthβs Board of Historic Resources has approved the Wachapreague Historic District for inclusion in the Virginia Landmarks Register.
The designation recognizes the townβs historic core, which is made up primarily of residential and commercial buildings that reflect Wachapreagueβs development over time. Many of the structures were constructed in vernacular, Folk Victorian, and other architectural styles common on Virginiaβs Eastern Shore during the period of the townβs growth.
Inclusion on the Virginia Landmarks Register highlights the districtβs architectural and historical significance and is a key step in preserving Wachapreagueβs heritage. The designation also makes the district eligible for certain preservation incentives and serves as a foundation for potential future recognition at the national level.
