CAPE CHARLES, Va. — Progress continues on several key capital projects in Cape Charles despite some delays and challenges.
The latest update on the Community Trail, Phase 3, notes that the contractor has accomplished the placement of concrete for the east side sidewalks and light pole foundations. An on-site inspection by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) was conducted, although the project is currently reported to be four weeks behind schedule.
Lighting fixtures destined for Peach Street have been delivered, a contract handled independently with Spring City Electrical Manufacturing. Anticipation mounts as poles are expected to arrive in the coming weeks. Furthermore, a contract has been inked with the lowest bidder, Independent Lighting & Electrical, to oversee the lighting installation once the VDOT project reaches completion.
Progress on the Inner Harbor Bulkhead Rehabilitation project is evident as contractors have completed bolting together the king piles. Although a small section of lower wales remains outstanding, it is anticipated to be finalized within approximately one week. The approval of the contractor’s third progress payment request, albeit with revisions, is in progress.
A draft Aid to Local Ports grant request for Phase 3 of the bulkhead rehabilitation has been crafted and submitted to Port Authority staff, pending approval from the Town Council.
Additionally, a significant milestone was marked with the kickoff meeting alongside VHB for Beachfront Master Planning. In this meeting, various documents pertaining to previous planning efforts related to the beachfront were provided to VHB.
