HONOLULU — Former Hawaii Representative Tulsi Gabbard has expressed significant concern over what she describes as heightened surveillance of her and her family, following whistleblower reports that multiple federal air marshals have been assigned to her flights. Gabbard, who served in Congress from 2013 to 2021, noted that the increased scrutiny began in late July.
“This is only the information that we know,” Gabbard said, referring to the reported surveillance. “Obviously, I experienced a significant change in my travel when all of this began on July 23. My real question is, what don’t I know?”
Gabbard described the situation as a source of ongoing stress, both for herself and her family. “This is the real pain and stress that’s been caused both to me and my family by this whole situation … day and night wondering if and what government institution and agency is monitoring my phone calls, surveilling me in my movement in my travels, knowing that they may be looking for some kind of excuse or derogatory action to come after me,” she said.
Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) has publicly supported Gabbard, revealing that whistleblowers within the Federal Air Marshal Service informed him that Gabbard had been placed on the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) “Quiet Skies” program, which is reportedly used to monitor potential threats.
“I have been told Mrs. Gabbard has been placed on a TSA watchlist under a program known as ‘Quiet Skies’. I find this profoundly troubling for a number of reasons,” Burchett wrote in a letter to TSA Administrator David Pekoske.
Gabbard, a former Democratic congresswoman and presidential candidate, criticized what she perceives as the Biden administration’s willingness to use government tools to target political opponents. “Given this environment, it’s impossible to feel free,” she stated. “No American deserves this. No American deserves to live in fear of our own government.”
