GLOUCESTER POINT, Va. β The Center for Coastal Resources Management is calling on community members to assist with beta testing a new app, MapMyShore, designed to document and map tidal shoreline features across Virginia. The app aims to empower users to help maintain the Virginia Shoreline and Tidal Marsh Inventory by recording both new and existing features.
The beta testing process involves visiting shoreline sites and using the app to document various shoreline elements such as erosion control structures, tidal marshes, and cultural features. The Center hopes that volunteers will provide valuable feedback to improve the app before its official launch.
“Community involvement is key to keeping our shorelines healthy and resilient,” said a spokesperson from the Center for Coastal Resources Management. “Weβre excited to see how the app can help residents play a more active role in documenting and preserving our vital tidal areas.”
Those interested in participating in the beta test can access instructions on the Centerβs website, outlining the steps to contribute data and observations.
