EXMORE, Va. — The Eastern Shore Area Agency on Aging/Community Action Agency (ESAAA/CAA) is seeking funding from the Commonwealth of Virginia to enhance transportation services for elderly and disabled residents in Accomack and Northampton counties.
The agency has proposed the purchase of two nine-passenger high-roof vans and two 19-passenger buses, known as BOC vehicles, to facilitate transport for seniors and disabled individuals to senior centers, shopping locations, and community events.
Officials say the expanded transportation options will improve mobility and accessibility for those who may otherwise struggle to travel independently.
Residents, public and private transit providers, and other interested parties are invited to submit comments on the funding request. Written notices must be sent by February 1, 2025, to the Department of Rail and Public Transportation at 600 East Main Street, Suite 2102, Richmond, VA 23219. Comments can also be directed to ESAAA/CAA at 5432 Bayside Road, Exmore, VA 23350, attention Donna Smith.
