CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Town of Cape Charles is making steady progress on several infrastructure and operational initiatives, according to the latest update from the Capital Projects Manager.
Work is underway with various department heads to coordinate office space arrangements for an interim move to Trinity United Methodist Church (UMC). The relocation is part of a broader transition plan that also includes moving the Cape Charles Police Department to the second floor of the Municipal Building.
Negotiations with Trinity UMC and Wesley Community Development Corporation are ongoing to finalize a lease for temporary office space. A standard lease agreement has been reviewed by the Town Attorney as part of the process.
Meanwhile, key developments in water infrastructure were reported. The Town Manager has signed an easement involving Virginia Port Authority property, a critical step allowing Virginia American Water to proceed with pipeline construction between new wells and the town’s water treatment plant. The document has been sent to the Virginia Department of General Services for the required state-level signatures.
In a related move, Cape Charles finalized a Memorandum of Agreement to support the upcoming potable water pipeline project. The agreement outlines construction engineering, inspection, and pay request certification protocols for the pipeline that will serve a planned workforce housing development. It has been signed by the Town Manager and submitted to Virginia American Water and the contractor for final execution.
