ACCOMACK COUNTY, Va. — Accomack County Public Schools is reviewing a social media post made by one of its staff members regarding the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk in Utah, Superintendent Gennifer Miller said in a statement Thursday.
The post, which appeared on the employee’s personal account outside of school hours, has circulated online and “upset some members of our community,” Miller said. She emphasized that the division “does not support or endorse the personal opinions expressed by individual staff members.”
Miller said the school system is addressing the matter “in accordance with division policy and procedure.”
She also acknowledged that students, staff and families may be struggling in the aftermath of Wednesday’s events in Utah and encouraged anyone in need of support to reach out to school counselors.
“Now more than ever, it is important for us to demonstrate kindness and respect in our words and actions,” Miller said. “Let’s continue to support one another during this difficult time.”
