According to the Virginia Department of Health, the Eastern Shore faces a higher burden of prostate cancer than the state average, 132.2 cases per 100,000 residents compared to 105.2 statewide. It’s a stark reminder that prostate cancer isn’t just common, it’s disproportionately impacting men right here at home.

Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in men, and it often grows silently without symptoms. Many men put off screenings and doctor visits, not from neglect, but from habit or discomfort. Unfortunately, with prostate cancer, waiting until something feels wrong can mean waiting too long.
This fall, Riverside is making it easier for men to take care of their health by offering free prostate cancer screenings on Monday, September 22, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Riverside Urology Specialists Eastern Shore. This event is by appointment only, and patients can call 1-800-520-7006 to register.
