CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Town of Cape Charles will host the second meeting of its Railroad & Harbor Master Planning Steering Committee on March 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Cape Charles Civic Center, as work continues on shaping the future of one of the town’s most critical waterfront and transportation assets.
The meeting marks another step in a long-term planning effort aimed at guiding redevelopment, infrastructure improvements, and public access along the harbor and rail corridor—areas seen as central to Cape Charles’ economic vitality and coastal resilience.
According to the meeting announcement, the committee will review several key components of the developing master plan, including:
- Results from recent public engagement efforts
- An assessment of existing site conditions
- Draft guiding principles for the master plan
- A preliminary site framework plan
These elements are expected to help define how the town balances tourism, commercial activity, environmental considerations, and community character along the waterfront.

The planning initiative is being supported by the Berkley Group, a consulting firm assisting with analysis, stakeholder input, and conceptual design. The effort builds on ongoing discussions about harbor usage, rail integration, and long-range development strategies that have been under consideration by town officials and residents alike.
Public participation remains a key component of the process. Feedback gathered from residents, business owners, and stakeholders will continue to shape recommendations before any final plan is adopted.
Town officials encourage interested community members to attend the meeting or follow project updates as the planning process moves forward.
