ONANCOCK, Va. — Music lovers on the Eastern Shore have a rare treat coming their way this month, as the Cokesbury Cultural Center prepares to welcome an internationally recognized hammered dulcimer performer as part of its ongoing Free Concert Series.
Joshua Messick, a composer and National Hammered Dulcimer Champion, will take the stage on Saturday, July 18th at 7 p.m. at the Cultural Center, located at 13 Market Street in Onancock. The concert is free to attend, with donations welcomed to support the venue’s continued programming.
Messick has built a reputation well beyond the region for his skill on the hammered dulcimer, an instrument known for its rich, shimmering tone produced by striking strings with small mallets. His performances blend technical virtuosity with original compositions, drawing audiences who may be experiencing the instrument for the first time alongside longtime fans of traditional and contemporary dulcimer music.

Those interested in hearing samples of his work ahead of the show can visit JoshuaMessick.com.
The concert is made possible through the sponsorship of A. Thomas Young and is part of the Cokesbury Cultural Center’s broader mission to bring free, high-quality musical performances to the Onancock community.
