A Fairfax County child exploitation sting led to the arrest of nine men, including three undocumented immigrants who were later released on bond. This event sparked sharp criticism from federal officials directed at Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger.
“Sanctuary Spanberger’s REFUSAL to work with [ICE] has made Virginians less safe and the commonwealth a magnet for illegal alien crime,” DHS wrote in the post. DHS accused Spanberger of creating a “hotbed” for illegal immigrant violence with her day one order rescinding former Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s 287(g) agreement, which cut cooperative ties between ICE and Virginia State Police, fish and game wardens and state corrections officials, after the latest gruesome incident.
The Arrests and Release
- The Operation: Undercover detectives in Fairfax County posed as juveniles online and arrested nine men who traveled to meet minors for sexual encounters.
- The Suspects: The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed that three of the nine men arrested were undocumented immigrants from El Salvador.
- The Bonds: At least one of the suspects was released on a $3,000 secured bond after local authorities processed the criminal charges
The suspects allegedly traveled to Fairfax County to meet with minors for sexual encounters after engaging in sexually explicit conversations online with undercover detectives posing as juveniles, police said Wednesday.
The three illegal aliens were identified as Reyben Leono Sanchez Hernandez, 21, of El Salvador; Wilmer Alexander Aguilar Cruz, 28, of El Salvador; and Henry Adalberto Flores Herrera, 39.
According to DHS, Sanchez Hernandez’s criminal history includes solicitation of prostitution from a minor. Fairfax County police also said he was charged with driving on a suspended license.
Sanchez Hernandez was caught illegally entering the U.S. near the Rio Grande Valley Sept. 25, 2013, officials said. He was released into the country about a month later.
ICE placed a detainer on Sanchez Hernandez with the Fairfax County Detention Center July 29, officials said. However, police said he has since been released on a $3,000 secured bond.
