Science and Philosophy Seminar of the Eastern Shore of Virginia has scheduled a seminar, βFun & Games with Erik Satie.β The free 90-minute seminar will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, November 11 in the Lecture Hall of the Eastern Shore Community College, 29300 Lankford Hwy, Melfa, VA 23410.
Lee Jordan-Anders will discuss and perform works by Erik Satie, the French composer and pianist. Satie developed wildly non-conformist ideas about music that inspired composers such as Debussy and Stravinsky, and several 20th-century artistic directions. The program will include works from 1888 through 1914 and end in a complete performance of Satieβs Sports et Divertissements, accompanied by artworks by Charles Martin.
Jordan-Anders is Professor of Music and Artist-in-Residence Emerita at Virginia Wesleyan College. She was the Music Director of the Orchestra of the Eastern Shore from 2009 to 2014. She now enjoys teaching at the Governorβs School for the Arts in Norfolk, and continues to perform frequently.
Event date: Nov 11, 2016
These seminars are occasionally rescheduled on short notice. Prospective attendees are urged to check the Seminarβs website (www.SciPhi.org) shortly before a scheduled date.
