For its first concert of 2017, the Orchestra of the Eastern Shore, directed by Dr. Paul Kim, performs works from the heart of the classical period entitled “Classical Masters.” This free program will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, February 24 at Historic Cokesbury Church in Onancock and at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 26 at Hungars Episcopal Church in Bridgetown. The program will include Johann Stamitz’s Sinfonia Pastorale, Mozart’s Flute Quartet in D Major, and Haydn’s Cello Concerto in C Major.
The soloist in the Haydn concerto will be Ian Robinson, a Philadelphia native who trained at Indiana University under famed cellist Janos Starker. Mr. Robinson is currently director of strings at Norfolk Collegiate School and teaches Suzuki at the Academy of Music in Norfolk. The final OES concerts of the season will be on May 5 and 7. Entitled “All Baroque,” they mark a return to the roots of today’s classical music with works by Corelli, Albinoni, and Vivaldi. The highlight will be a performance of J.S. Bach’s Harpsichord Concerto No. 1 in D Minor featuring former OES music director Lee Jordan-Anders as soloist.
