It took Caroline Boyd, a seventh grade student at Cape Charles Christian School, and a member of our own Arts Enter Academy of Theater Arts 210 words to win the 40th Annual Eastern Shore News Spelling Bee. Boyd correctly spelled “perjury” and “stubborn” to take the title. Perjury was the word that led to Boyd’s elimination last year.
Arcadia Middle School 7th grader Jason Kaniecki, took 2nd, while Broadwater 8th grader Grace Young finished in third place.
Besides spelling, Caroline is also active in local theater and sports. She starred as the cub reporter Evelyn in the recent Clam-Digger’s Daughter play at the Palace Theatre, and plays in the Shore Softball League.
“Caroline is one of our favorite, most talented actors. She is so bright, a very fast learner, and most all she is dedicated, I’m not surprised she is this year’s bee winner…she is one of our go-to performers, and a real asset to the Arts Enter Academy of Theater Arts,” said Wayne Creed, director of The Clam-Digger’s Daughter.

Caroline is very talented, but without the encouragement and opportunities offered by yourself/Arts Enter, Cape Charles Christian, the ESNews sponsorship of the spelling bee and Shore Little League, there would not be so many chances for our youth to express themselves.
