Cape Charles, Va – The Cape Charles Building Department has maintained a steady pace of construction oversight and permitting activity while preparing for an upcoming office relocation, according to the latest monthly report.
Building Official records show the department conducted 35 inspections and issued 11 new permits during the reporting period. The permits included approval for a new home construction project on Muirfield Drive, with plans currently under review for a private swimming pool installation on Sunset Boulevard and a commercial renovation at 1 Clubhouse Way.
In preparation for the department’s move scheduled for late fall, staff have been working to modernize their filing systems. The Permit Technician has been scanning older construction plans into a cloud-based system, allowing the office to eliminate outdated paper documents before the relocation.
“We’re taking this opportunity to streamline our operations,” the report indicates, noting that file cabinets are being reorganized to accommodate new projects while centralizing both Building and Zoning department files into one unified system.
The Town has been active in inter-agency coordination, participating in weekly department head meetings and collaborating with the Zoning Administrator on various ongoing projects throughout the town.
Recent coordination efforts included a conference call with Northampton County officials regarding the 911 addressing system and procedures for obtaining new addresses for development projects. The department also maintained correspondence with the Health Department concerning beach swimming advisories that may affect waterfront construction activities.
While no new rental inspection applications were processed during this period, the department completed two rental property inspections as part of its ongoing oversight of the town’s rental housing stock.
The Building Department’s report reflects Cape Charles’ continued growth and development, with new residential construction, recreational amenities, and commercial renovations contributing to the town’s evolving landscape.
