I am writing to share my opinion of the snow plowing that occurred in town last night, 1/7/18. I can only comment on what I saw in the 600 block of Monroe, but I’m guessing it was the same all over town.
The plowing was a waste of VDOT resources and detrimental to town residents. The people that were stuck before the plowing are stuck even worse after. The people that had taken the time to dig out are now stuck again. We have near 70 degree weather forecast for later in the week. This problem would have resolved itself without tearing up the medians and burying people’s cars.
The contractors responsible for the plowing showed about the level of concern you would expect from somebody in their position. The supervisor’s comment to me when I pointed out that his plows had just buried my nicely cleared driveway was that VDOT told them to clear the roads and the snow had to go somewhere. Too bad for us I guess. To VDOT’s credit, when an actual VDOT employee showed up around 12:30 in the morning and saw what was going on, he put a stop to the work. He said he would have been here sooner but had been tied up with a broken down vehicle up the road. I appreciate that their resources are stretched thin, and I think the town really screwed up by pressuring them to take on this extra work.
I hope the person or persons responsible for requesting the plowing learned a lesson. Big highway dump trucks with highway sized plows have no business plowing up and down the town streets. They would have a hard time negotiating these roads on a clear day in August, let alone in the middle of the night pushing a big plow full of ice, snow, and dirt from the median.
I would be interested to hear what other residents thought when they saw the results Monday morning.

I could not agree more. Do after the plow went by I got to shovel an iceberg. The snow would have been easier as half of it blew away until the plow rebuilt the wall. These streets are not set up for highway plows. If this type of once in 50 years event really bothers you get a 4 wheel drive vehicle.
Government does not care about you.

So how does that whole “Let’s give faraway Richmond purview over all of our roads!!” working out now?
They have been conditioned, since public school got a hold of them, to accept many layers of absolute authority. Debt keeps them on a Hamster-Wheel so that they have no time to question absolute authority. They are so accustomed to it, most refer to their wives as The Boss.
