CAPE CHARLES, Va. — Cape Charles Main Street is moving forward with several grant-funded projects aimed at supporting tourism, events and infrastructure improvements, according to the organization’s executive director.
The group has submitted final paperwork for the Strawberry Street Plaza Downtown Investment Grant, valued at $75,000, to the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development. Combined with a $10,000 Drive Outdoor grant from the Virginia Tourism Corporation, the funding is expected to complete work on the downtown plaza.
In addition to that project, several other grants are currently open, including:
- Mason Avenue Electrical Upgrade – $50,000
- Festive Fridays 2025 – $15,000
- Love Fest 2025 – $5,000
- Love Run 2026 – $8,000
- Sail Fest Cape Charles – $30,000
Cape Charles Main Street is also managing multiple Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) grants. These include two VTC/DMO social media awards totaling more than $21,000, and carryover funding from fiscal year 2025 for the Welcome Center and Bathroom Project, valued at $67,666.
The grants are part of Cape Charles Main Street’s broader effort to strengthen the town’s tourism economy while investing in community amenities.
I was feeling a little down when I woke up this morning. And while having my first cup of coffee I read this “ The grants are part of Cape Charles Main Street’s broader effort to strengthen the town’s tourism economy while investing in community amenities.“ our tourism economy needs a much needed boost. When I’m driving our Cape Charles, I say to myself, Cape Charles does not have enough summer people. I thank god every day that we have Main Street to turn this town into a really big summer destination. I would be happy with a 10% exponential yearly growth.
