CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Cape Charles Police Department released its August activity report, detailing arrests, traffic enforcement and calls for service inside and outside of town.
Officers responded to 99 calls for service in Cape Charles and another 10 outside town limits, assisting other agencies. Police made three felony arrests and eight misdemeanor arrests during the month.
Traffic enforcement accounted for much of the department’s activity, with 50 traffic summons issued, 46 golf cart interactions and 119 parking tickets. Officers also conducted 70 building checks, logged 52 hours of foot patrols and patrolled Bay Creek for 30 hours.
The department assisted the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office eight times and the Virginia State Police twice.
Arrests in August
Arrests included charges of:
- Driving while intoxicated, second offense
- Obstructing justice
- Altered or forged tags and titles
- Felony eluding
- Refusal to submit to a test
- Driving revoked
- Hit and run, failure to render aid
- Reckless driving
- Malicious wounding
- Assault and battery, including assault on a family member
- Contributing to the delinquency of a minor
Weekly activity
Police also responded to a variety of weekly incidents, including:
- Traumatic injury and EMS assists
- Road rage
- Missing person
- Harassment messages
- Suspicious bag
- Combative subject and possible drunk in public
- Citizen complaints and welfare checks
- Vehicle accident
- Trespassing issue
- Reports of stolen or missing property
- Child not secured in a car seat
- Translation assistance for Virginia State Police
