CAPE CHARLES, Va. — A 6-year-old boy was injured in Cape Charles Central Park after being struck by an electric bike ridden by a 12-year-old during a recent concert, prompting town officials to reinforce rules on recreational vehicles during events.
The incident occurred amid what residents say is a growing number of scooters, bicycles, hoverboards and similar devices being used in the park during concerts. Police already prohibit such vehicles during concert hours, but no officers were assigned to the event because attendance was lower than at other shows, according to Cape Charles Police Chief estimates.
Following the accident, the concern was forwarded to the Police Department, Public Works, Town Manager and Citizens for Central Park. The park’s events coordinator said they will review existing signage with the Police Department and add new signs at park entrances specifically banning scooters, bikes and hoverboards during concerts.
The town reached out to the injured child’s family to check on his recovery and inform them of the enforcement measures.
So you determine if you need a police or security presence after you get an attendance? Sounds back asswards. Sounds like the event coordinator and town staff should be held responsible for the injuries. Sounds like someone should be fired and someone sued.
