CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Cape Charles Town Council will meet Wednesday, Oct. 16, to review several key issues shaping the town’s growth and future planning, including updates to the Beachfront Master Plan, short-term rental activity, and potential changes to local zoning rules.
The meeting agenda includes a discussion of the town’s Beachfront Master Plan, which outlines proposed improvements and long-term strategies for managing the popular public beach area. Council members are expected to review recent planning recommendations and consider next steps for implementation.
Also up for review are the latest short-term rental statistics, providing insight into the number of registered properties, occupancy trends, and compliance levels with town regulations. The discussion comes as officials continue efforts to balance tourism-driven revenue with concerns about housing availability and neighborhood impacts.
In addition, the council will consider an appointment to the Board of Zoning Appeals, which hears cases involving zoning variances and appeals of administrative decisions.
A significant policy topic on the agenda will be the proposal to permit Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) for short-term rentals, a measure that could expand lodging options while raising new questions about density, infrastructure, and enforcement.
The meeting is open to the public and will be held at Cape Charles Town Hall.
There are reports that they are also talking about allowing RVs and Pickup trucks with Camper shells to be considered STRs as long as they are parked in driveways.
