Need a new milk alternative? Worried about soy, totally over trendy Almond milk, and Coconut milk is just weird? The hottest new trend in dairy free is pea milk. Pea milk has nutritional and environmental benefits, such as 8 grams per 8 oz serving (same as cow milk), contains awesome amounts of DHA omega-3 fatty acids, iron and vitamin D, it is dairy-soy-nut-gluten free, it has half the sugar, 1/6 the amount saturated fat, and 20% fewer calories than dairy milk.
NOAA Scientists Sight “Ghostly” Fish for First Time
NOAA FISHERIES – Scientists on board NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer exploring the deep waters of the Marianas Trench captured video of a transparent, scale-less, eel-like fish never before seen alive. In the video, hear NOAA Fisheries biologist Bruce Mundy from the Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center narrate the discovery.
As NOAA scientists watched the unique creature, they expressed sheer amazement over the unexpected sight.
“This is just remarkable,” marine biologist Bruce Mundy marveled as they observed the creature, “this is really an unusual sighting.”
The ‘ghost fish’ bears an uncanny resemblance to a similarly ethereal octopus that the scientific research group spotted off the coast of Hawaii back in March.

Cape Charles Advisory: Tropical Storm Hermine – Weather Briefing
ADVISORY FROM THE TOWN OF CAPE CHARLES – Tropical Storm Hermine is expected to pass to the east of the Town in the Atlantic Ocean, but the area may experience winds stronger than normal along with rain Friday night and Saturday.
There are many homes in Cape Charles that have part time residents. With the impending storm and the possibility of strong winds and heavy rains, it would be prudent for each of us to pay attention to your neighbors’ homes as well as your own. Below is a list of items for consideration to avoid damages from the winds that may come with the storm:
SECURE ALL OUTDOOR ITEMS IN CASE OF STRONG WINDS:
• Lawn / yard furniture (tables, chairs, umbrellas, etc.)
• Grills
• Decorative items
• Boat and utility trailers in the yard or the street
• Trash Receptacles
Please DO NOT put any yard debris, brush or other trash on the street curb. Any debris can pose a safety hazard in strong winds and will clog storm drains if any flooding occurs.
If there is any street flooding, DO NOT drive your vehicle through high water. If you cannot see the pavement, DO NOT go through it as this could cause irreparable damage to your vehicle.
Mayor Proto and the Town staff appreciate everyone’s assistance during this period. For emergencies, please call 911 or 678-0458.
The Northampton County Department of Emergency Management will continue to monitor the situation with the National Weather Service. Updates will be issued as necessary depending on the updated information. Updates are typically issued via the Northampton County Emergency Alert System.

LOCAL BEACH SWIMMING ADVISORIES LIFTED
LOCAL BEACH SWIMMING ADVISORIES LIFTED – Guard Shore Beach and Kiptopeke Beach Water Bacteria Levels Improved
(Accomac, Va.) The Eastern Shore Health District has lifted the swimming advisories that had been in place at Guard Shore Beach near Bloxom, Virginia and at Kiptopeke State Park
Beach near Cape Charles, Virginia. Recent follow up testing conducted within 24 hours of the initial samples confirmed that bacteria levels in the water once again meet the State Water
Quality Standards. Signs have been removed from Guard Shore Beach and Kiptopeke State Park Beach, previously alerting the public of the advisories.
Special “source tracking” samples have been sent to Virginia Tech to determine if the original high levels of enterococci bacteria were from human or animal sources. Environmental
health officials collect water samples from Guard Shore Beach and Kiptopeke Beach weekly throughout the summer swimming season. Beach water monitoring on the Eastern Shore of
Virginia normally ends the week of Labor Day.
For additional information about the recent beach advisory, contact the Eastern Shore Health District (757)787-5880.

Supervisor Hogg’s Response to USCG Anchorage in Cape Charles
Special to the Cape Charles Mirror, response to the USCG on proposed Anchorage Grounds, Lower Chesapeake Bay, Cape Charles by District 1 Supervisor Granville Hogg.
On behalf of my constituents in the Town of Cape Charles and surrounding area in Northampton County, I hereby submit my comments regarding concerns relating to the proposed establishment of a permanent vessel anchorage just off the shoreline of Cape Charles, Virginia, in the Chesapeake Bay.
Cape Charles has approximately 1,000 residents but those numbers swell considerably during the summer months with summer renters and out of state visitors. Cape Charles is heavily dependent on commercial and recreational fishing, boating off our shores, and tourists that come to enjoy the town and its pristine beaches and clean Chesapeake Bay waters.
Just to the North of Cape Charles is Cherrystone Campground and Cherrystone Aqua Farm. During the summer months Cherrystone Campground has an average daily population in excess of 2500 persons and Cherrystone Aqua Farm is one of the largest aquaculture hatcheries on the eastern seaboard. To the south of the proposed anchorage is Kiptopeke State Park and Sunset Inn Campground. Between the three campgrounds and Cape Charles the population of my district increases in excess of two and half fold. The recent fish kill of July 1 on the beaches at Sunset and Kiptopeke are imbedded in the minds of County residents.

Comment on Proposed Large Ship Anchorage Off Cape Charles Harbor
While the deep waters off Cape Charles Harbor create an excellent opportunity for maritime economics, they also provide a prime location for large ship anchorages. Since ships currently use waters off of Cape Charles for temporary anchorages (and have for many years), the US Coast Guard is proposing a formal anchorage that will be located just outside the town harbor. Current use cases predict little or no uptick in traffic, however, this is hard to predict for certain.
USCG representatives were in Cape Charles Wednesday to brief the public on the current proposal. Public comments and questions were robust, mainly focused on the impact to tourism, town commerce, local fishing, and of course the environment. Local fisherman Butch Vest noted that, after many years of being abused by the Omega Menhaden fleet, recreational fisherman are leery of large ships anchoring in midst of local fishing grounds, especially during rockfish season. Vest also voiced concern that commercial activity, such as crabbing could also be effected. While the USCG made efforts to present a big picture scenario, offering the fundamental role that cargo ships play in the regional and national economy, Nancy Vest countered, “I can appreciate that, but what I’m concerned about is our economy and how it will be effected. I’m concerned about the survival of this town.”
