CHINCOTEAGUE, Va. — The Town of Chincoteague has taken the first step toward acquiring a prime waterfront parcel along South Main Street, with plans to potentially transform the site into a new public waterfront park.
According to a public notice, the Town has signed a Letter of Intent to purchase the large parcel, beginning a due diligence process to assess the feasibility and value of the acquisition. Officials say the move supports Chincoteague’s long-term goals of improving public waterfront access, expanding recreational opportunities, and preserving the island’s natural and cultural resources.
Details about the proposed purchase will be presented at the upcoming Town Council meeting on November 3, where residents are encouraged to attend and learn more about the project. A public hearing will be scheduled at a later date to gather community input before any final decision is made.
