EXMORE (June 8, 2017) – At the monthly Town Council Meeting, held Monday, June 5 at 7 p.m., the Exmore Town Council unanimously passed a $2 million operating budget for the 2017 – 2018 fiscal year which begins July 1. Despite general fund expenses for major acquisitions and replacement of equipment, the budget shows no shortfall.
In other business, the seven-man council adopted a resolution to approve VDOT’s proposal for designating Commercial Avenue as a One-Way thoroughfare. The roadway will be appropriately marked with VDOT signage.

A second resolution was passed, authorizing Town Manager Robert Duer to execute contracts and other documents necessary for the implementation of the well and water treatment facility on behalf of the Town. Exmore was awarded $500,000 in grant funding from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development to offset the cost of the water project.
Taylor Dukes, director of utilities, provided updates on the water project and the sewer project. Both are on schedule and advancing smoothly. Mr. Duer presented an update on the Town’s tourism and marketing efforts and its commitment to providing a calendar of affordable and free family-oriented events in the Exmore Town Park.
Pertaining to an upcoming occasion in the park, Mayor Douglas Greer signed a Proclamation declaring June 17, 2017 as Juneteenth Day in Exmore. This annual county-wide event, now in its 18th year on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, has been observed since 1865, and is being held in the Exmore Town Park for the first time.
There were no public comments, and the meeting adjourned at 8 p.m.
