The Northampton County Education Foundation (NCEF) funded a tutoring program initiated by Northampton Boys Varsity Basketball Coach, Wayne Bell, to improve the scholastic performance of his team members. This program followed in the footsteps of Northampton High School wrestling Coach Matt Evans, who instituted mandatory tutoring for his team members last year. Coach Bell required all 26 team members to attend academic tutoring after school prior to practice. Northampton High School chemistry teacher, Mr. George Chandler, provided the tutoring for this past academic year. The grant was made available by a donation that was specifically earmarked for the basketball tutoring program. Coach Bell reports all of his players remained eligible to play the entire Districts winning season. He thanked the Athletic Tutoring program for providing the structured setting for his players to study.

Other Northampton High coaches can request the tutoring services provided the funds are available. The NCEF invites individuals and business partners to make donations to help expand this program so that more Northampton High School students can benefit from academic tutoring.
The mission of the Northampton County Education Foundation is to engage the community and mobilize resources to promote student performance and excellence in teaching in the county’s public schools. The Foundation offers grants to the schools and to individual teachers to support initiatives that help reshape, enhance or improve classroom education, as well as grants for special extra-curricular activities, such as field trips, speakers, and clubs and arts programs. In addition the Foundation annually provides scholarships to graduates of Northampton High School. Please make your donations payable to NCEF, PO Box 323, Cape Charles, VA 23310, and specify which team you wish to support.
