30-year Information Technology Leader to Head State Legislature’s Technology Support Agency
Richmond, VA — The Virginia General Assembly today announced the appointment of Fritz Sassine as the new Director of the Division of Legislative Automated Systems (DLAS) at the seat of government on Capitol Square, Richmond. Sassine is an accomplished IT and cybersecurity leader with more than 30 years of experience driving enterprise efficiency, digital transformation, and organizational growth in both the private and public sectors, most recently as the Assistant Director of IT Cybersecurity and Project Management for the Virginia Office of the Attorney General.
Sassine has successfully implemented enterprise‑wide applications and built and led high‑performing in‑house development teams that deliver secure, scalable solutions aligned with business and mission objectives. He is known for organizing and maturing internal development teams, establishing standards and practices that enable reliable delivery of complex, multi‑year technology roadmaps.
In addition to his civilian roles, Sassine serves as a Company Commander with the Virginia Defense Force Cyber Battalion. He holds a BS in Business and Information Systems and certifications including a Nessus Certificate of Proficiency, SCRUM Master Project Management Certificate, and Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, and applies ITIL 4 principles to build repeatable, high‑quality IT services.
Beyond his professional responsibilities, Sassine has demonstrated a strong commitment to service and humanitarian work. He founded HaitiKids to support medical mission trips and has flown patients and families for medical treatment as a private pilot with Angel Flight, reflecting his passion for helping those in need.
As DLAS Director, Sassine will be responsible for the Division’s professional and support personnel who provide technical services and access to legislative information for the General Assembly and the public, primarily through the Legislative Information System (LIS). Among its other duties, DLAS performs computing and programming services, manages the General Assembly’s Bill Room, facilitates targeted legislative branch initiatives, upon request, and maintains a strong collaborative and cooperative relationship with other legislative agencies, stakeholders and the public.
DLAS is a legislative branch agency reporting to the Committee on Joint Rules. Sassine’s appointment is effective December 10, 2025.
