New Water Treatment Facility for Town of Exmore Set to Go

Town receives $500,000 in Community Block Grant from State to help fund project; completion date targeted for July 2018.

EXMORE, VA (April xx, 2015) – The holes are in the ground, the preliminary paperwork is being finalized and the Town of Exmore is all set to develop two new wells and a new water treatment facility that will serve the 1,460 residents of the community. The State of Virginia recently awarded Exmore a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant to help fund this infrastructure upgrade, which is targeted for completion by July 2018. Environmental services and engineering firm Draper Arden Associates will direct the project in partnership with Town officials.
Included in the new system are two green sand filters that will remove iron and manganese from the water as the water is pumped. “We want to bring the highest quality service of every kind to the people of Exmore,” said Mayor Douglas Greer. “Upgrading our water delivery is part of that mission. The existing wells were installed more than 50 years ago.”

The total cost of the project is estimated at $1.5 million. In addition to the $500,000 grant, Exmore received $573,000 in principal forgiveness for the project, substantially easing the financial requirements for the Town.

Exmore is one of nine Virginia localities to benefit from more than $4 million in Community Development Block Grant awards approved by the State of Virginia. Mayor Douglas Greer accepted the funds on behalf of the Town, noting that more infrastructure improvements are in the pipeline for Exmore, including comprehensive plans for a new sewer system serving Exmore residents and businesses.
