Rep. Luria Presses Naval Leadership for Details on Military Training and Readiness Challenges During Oversight Hearing

Is the military ready for any kind of conflict with China? Rep. Luria Presses Naval Leadership for Details on Military Training and Readiness

WASHINGTON, D.C.— Yesterday, House Armed Services Committee Vice Chair Elaine Luria participated in a Readiness Subcommittee on training mishaps in the Armed Forces to discuss how the military can mitigate risks and factors to reduce the likelihood of accidents.

“As Vice Chair of the House Armed Services Committee, I am working to ensure we put our brave men and women in the best position to defend our nation,” said Congresswoman Elaine Luria. “Investing in realistic and effective training exercises and taking steps to mitigate the impacts of the pandemic on military readiness are key to giving our servicemembers the confidence and skills they need to be successful in battle.”

During the hearing, Congresswoman Luria referenced the 2017 collisions involving the USS MCCAIN and USS FITZGERALD and sought clarification from ADM Bill Lescher on how the Navy is improving Surface Warfare Officer (SWO) training. She asked if the Navy has metrics that provide evidence of improved SWO training since 2017 and if there were any problematic or negative trends. Finally, Congresswoman Luria inquired about integrated air and missile defense and anti-submarine warfare training, asking if there are any areas within that subject that are of concern.

This is surreal and has an aspect of Heller’s “Catch-22” mixed in, where Milo Minderbinder rents out U.S. bombers and military equipment to the enemy to keep the war going.

Right now, OUR government, and by extension, OUR Navy, are funded by the Chinese who as of 3 Dec. 2020 held US$1.063 trillion in U.S. debt, while Japan’s held US$1.260 trillion.

So if and when our Navy goes to war with China, has congresswoman Luria considered where the money to do so is going to come from?

Will she continue to rely on the Chinese for funding?

If not, then where else will she turn?
