RICHMOND, Va. (AP) – Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam has again vetoed a bill aimed at preventing so-called “sanctuary cities” in the state.
Northam, a Democrat, said he was vetoing the legislation Tuesday because it imposes an unneeded burden on local law enforcement officials and “sends a chilling message.”
It was the same statement he issued last year when he vetoed the same legislation.
A sanctuary city is a term without legal definition but generally means a locality that limits cooperation with federal immigration enforcement activities.
Republicans said the legislation is needed to ensure federal immigration efforts aren’t hampered.
The bill narrowly passed the GOP-led General Assembly along party lines.
Northam also vetoed legislation requiring local law enforcement officials to notify federal officials when a person living in the country illegally is released from jail.

I have no idea why anyone who represents any Commonwealth or State can find any rational thought process that defends breaking federal law. Our towns, cities and law enforcement personnel have always been expected to work alongside, and fully cooperate with ICE and all other federal authority.
Personally, I believe that our governor’s decision puts Virginian’s at higher risk to more problem’s with the immigration emergency present in our country. I also think he has the entire idea of this legislation completely backwards. It is his veto that sends a chilling message and places a greater burden on law enforcement. Our sad governor has the entire idea bass ackwards.
I believe that Mr. Northam is a disgrace to the state of Virginia. It defies logic that he can remain in office. I base my belief not just on his efforts to protect illegal immigration but on his horrific views on abortion. This is without considering his lies and misrepresentations on his notorious photos. I have always believed in pro choice but if that now includes these barbaric late term or full birth “abortions” I will have to say that I am now against abortion.
In any case, it appears that Mr. Northam can remain in office no matter what he says or does.
