Northampton Clinches Playoff Berth with win over Nandua

The Northampton Football Yellow Jackets clinched a playoff spot with a decisive win over Nandua 43-26. The score was not as close as the score indicates. With sheets of cold rain, gusts of win and a slippery field, Northampton committed six turnovers, several in the red zone. In the end, the only real competition was the weather.

With field conditions poor, it played into Northampton’s bread and butter, ground and pound running attack. Corey Smith, an obvious all-state candidate had another big game, with three touchdowns, and a pick-six return for a touchdown. Fullback Carlton Smith had another massive game, with two touchdowns and several big runs.

The defense, led by Cameron Glennon and Josh Splawn was physical at the point of attack.  Several big hits by Splawn and Glennon stopped potential Nandua scoring opportunities.

Special teams were once again very solid, with Tripp Westcoat perfect on PATs.

With two games left, if the Jackets can win out, they should have home field for the playoffs.

The next game is this Monday at 6:00 at home against Northumberland. This is a makeup game for one that was canceled due to storms earlier in the season. The teams will complete the second half, where Northampton leads 14-0.
