CAPE CHARLES, Va. — Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the fatal stabbing of a man at a Cape Charles apartment complex last month.
Jamar Jones, 46, of Accomack County, was taken into custody on a charge of first-degree murder in the death of Calvin Cummings, the Cape Charles Police Department announced Wednesday. The arrest was made with the Northampton Sheriff’s Department and Virginia State Police. Jones is being held without bond at the Northampton Regional Jail.
Police discovered Cummings’ body on Feb. 19 at the Myrtle Landing Apartments, formerly known as Heritage Acres. Officers had responded to a call at the complex and found Cummings deceased at the scene, town officials said.
The case remains active, and police said additional charges may be pending.
The homicide is the first this year in Cape Charles, a historic town of about 1,000 residents on Virginia’s Eastern Shore. Myrtle Landing Apartments is located in the northern section of town.
