Sometimes, the most elegant ideas are the most simple.
If you have been to the beach this season, you will notice that Public Works has done a great job cleaning and grooming. The Mirror contacted Public Works Manager John Lockwood asking about the new process. It turns out they devised a simple and elegant addition to the beach sweeper.

John told the Mirror, “This is really just a very simple “drag”. It consists of 4 pieces of chain-link fencing, two 2”X6”X8’ and a 12’ piece of chain. It is much like the drags you see used on baseball fields. The shop foreman Ralph Bowen devised this and built it with help from Harper Matthews. We are trying to use this daily. It levels the beach, fills in most of the holes dug by kids and gives a nice, groomed appearance”.
Be sure thank our Public Works Crew for the great work they are doing.
