EASTERN SHORE, Va. — A local group is stepping up to make sure every voter has access to the polls this election season by offering free rides to registrar offices and precincts in Accomack and Northampton counties.
The effort, organized under the name Eastern Shore Votes, will provide transportation for residents needing a lift to register or take part in early voting at their county registrar’s office, as well as to their assigned polling place on Election Day.
To coordinate the service, the group has set up a dedicated call system, is posting flyers, handing out cards, and has recruited volunteer drivers to cover both counties.
Free rides will be available beginning Thursday, September 19, through Monday, November 4. The service operates daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Voters can schedule a ride by calling 1-855-616-RIDE (7433).
Organizers hope the transportation option will remove barriers for residents who might otherwise struggle to register or get to the polls.
