ONANCOCK, VA. – Statistics say that one woman in eight will develop breast cancer in her lifetime, and men get it too. Age is a factor in one’s risk for breast cancer, so as each year goes by, screening becomes more important, even if last year’s results were normal.
Luckily, huge strides have been made in recent years, and today more people than ever before are surviving breast cancer; many of these survivors have benefited from early detection through routine breast screening.
In celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Riverside Shore Cancer Center is hosting a free Breast Cancer Screening event on Wednesday, October 9 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Attendees will receive a free clinical breast examination by a nurse practitioner who will check for lumps or other physical changes to the breast and surrounding areas. If any follow up is needed, personalized assistance will be available to streamline the process. Space for the examinations is limited, so appointments are required.
For more information go to the Riverside Shore Memorial facebook page at www.facebook.com/riversideshorememorial. Appointments can be made by calling 302-2600.
