TOWN COUNCIL TOWN HALL MEETINGS:

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2:00 PM
The Cape Charles Town Council will be holding TWO Town Hall Meetings regarding the potential sale of the public utilities under the Public-Private Education Facilities and Infrastructure Act (PPEA). Both meetings will cover the same material and were scheduled to better accommodate the public’s availability.
The first Town Hall Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 16th, beginning at 6:30 PM at the Civic Center located at 500 Tazewell Avenue, and the Town Hall Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, February 19th, beginning at 2:00 PM, also at the Civic Center.
We hope that you will be able to attend one of these meetings. This is your opportunity to hear the facts, ask questions, and provide your input. Although we will be streaming these meetings on Facebook, since this is not a virtual meeting, the Facebook viewers will have no opportunity for interaction. Also, the audio system at the Civic Center is not equipped to adequately capture all comments from members of the audience as these are informal meetings and audience members will not be required to come to the podium to speak.
If for any reason you are unable to attend either of these meetings, or plan to view the meetings on Facebook, you may still submit your questions by emailing them to the Town Clerk at clerk@capecharles.org or by dropping them off at Town Hall to the Town Clerk’s attention.
All questions must be received no later than one hour before the meeting start times.

Why will people who make comments at these meetings not be using the microphone on the podium? What is the point of putting the meeting on Facebook if Facebook viewers are unable to hear what is being said? The last meeting with the HDRB consultant is a perfect example. Initially, one of the consultants used the microphone, then passed it to another consultant, who proceeded to hold it for the duration of the meeting. Meanwhile, the main consultant had conversations with people in the audience, without using the microphone, so no one on Facebook could hear anything. The taxpayers of Cape Charles paid for those microphones. Could they please use them? In this time of Covid, why would the Town Manager insist on people coming to these meetings in person? Do they really WANT taxpayers to hear what is said? If so, use the microphone…this is not difficult.
