Wachapreague, Va – The Commonwealth’s Board of Historic Resources has approved the Wachapreague Historic District for inclusion in the Virginia Landmarks Register.
The designation recognizes the town’s historic core, which is made up primarily of residential and commercial buildings that reflect Wachapreague’s development over time. Many of the structures were constructed in vernacular, Folk Victorian, and other architectural styles common on Virginia’s Eastern Shore during the period of the town’s growth.
Inclusion on the Virginia Landmarks Register highlights the district’s architectural and historical significance and is a key step in preserving Wachapreague’s heritage. The designation also makes the district eligible for certain preservation incentives and serves as a foundation for potential future recognition at the national level.
