Wachapreague, Va – The Commonwealthโs Board of Historic Resources has approved the Wachapreague Historic District for inclusion in the Virginia Landmarks Register.
The designation recognizes the townโs historic core, which is made up primarily of residential and commercial buildings that reflect Wachapreagueโs development over time. Many of the structures were constructed in vernacular, Folk Victorian, and other architectural styles common on Virginiaโs Eastern Shore during the period of the townโs growth.
Inclusion on the Virginia Landmarks Register highlights the districtโs architectural and historical significance and is a key step in preserving Wachapreagueโs heritage. The designation also makes the district eligible for certain preservation incentives and serves as a foundation for potential future recognition at the national level.
