1 thought on “Why the GOP Tax Plan will Probably Fail to do what we really need

  1. You have overlooked one of the key constituencies – small business owners whose businesses are organized as an “S” corporation, a partnership or simply a “1099” contractor.
These folk include most of the small business owners in Cape Charles (and the Eastern Shore) as well as a huge percentage of folks in the service sector (lawyer, accountant, financial adviser) and the late Gen Y (millenials) and Gen Z (starting to enter workforce) – possibly your children and grandchildren – who will work in the gig economy and/or start businesses due to the mis-match of expectations and skills.
Reducing the tax burden on these folks is directly related to economic growth – after all, these are folks who actually hire folks either as employees or independent contractors, growing the local economy.
Ronald Reagan proved that reducing taxes on wage earners and businesses can increase economic growth – as shown by the longest economic expansion since WWII.
I’d suggest that instead of asserting negative predictions of the outcome of this tax reduction bill, that folks hold Congress accountable – both Democrats and Republicans need to be accountable for the success or failure of this legislation.
