The Eastern Shore Literacy Council was recently awarded a five thousand dollar grant from the Nora Roberts Foundation. Nora Roberts, a best-selling author who also writes under the pen name of JD Robb, created the Foundation in 2001 as an avenue of support for organizations promoting and encouraging literacy, children, the arts and humanitarian efforts. The Literacy’s Council’s winning proposal, Lifetime Literacy Map, included the updating of its current website, the design, and production of new brochures for the Adult Basic Education (ABE) and English Language Learners, as well as the translation of these brochures.
A continuum of services brochure will be part of the grant project so that learners will be able to make informed decisions as they work to become more literate. The Eastern Shore Literacy Council is a 501(c)(3)nonprofit located at the Eastern Shore Community College in Melfa.
