WASHINGTON D.C., DC — The Chesapeake Bay Foundation, along with other environmental groups, filed a lawsuit in Federal Circuit Court in Washington, D.C. to overturn the Environmental Protection Agency’s attempt to withdraw the Clean Air Act waiver previously granted to California, according to a news release.
Delaware, Maryland, New York, and Pennsylvania, and D.C. have adopted elements of California’s Clean Cars program.
The program has reduced both nitrogen and greenhouse gas pollution, the foundation said in the news release.
The foundation said the EPA is relying on many of the same clean air laws and regulations that the Trump administration is currently trying to weaken or repeal. This includes efforts to limit emissions from cars and trucks.
The laws limit the goal to curb emissions and clean up the Chesapeake Bay by 2025.
The groups part of the lawsuit includes including the Center for Biological Diversity, Communities for a Better Environment, Conservation Law Foundation, Environment America, Environmental Defense Fund, Environmental Law & Policy Center, Natural Resources Defense Council, Public Citizen, Sierra Club, and Union of Concerned Scientists.
