Notice to all residents and business owners:
As this highly unusual season comes to a close, the entire town should feel very proud and certainly deserves a pat on the back for making the most of less than ideal conditions, yet still salvaging a relatively successful summer. Despite the large crowds, most folks did their best to follow COVID-19 precautions and we made it through the season without the incidents of the virus seen in so many other places in southeast Virginia. Good Job!
We are not out of the woods just yet, and must emphasize that all personal precautions remain in effect; however, due to reduced crowds in town and recent downward trends throughout the Commonwealth, the Town will implement the following changes on Monday, October 5:
- The Town will move to the first step of our recovery phase. This will be an incremental process to return to normal operations. Limited numbers of citizens will again be able to enter Town facilities to conduct their business. The primary public-facing facilities affected are Town Hall, the Harbor, and the Library. Patrons will be allowed in these facilities by appointment or by contacting the office upon arrival. Only one person per department will be allowed in most facilities at a time. - The Central Park playground will reopen*
- Public restrooms at the beach, library, Peach Street, and Central Park will be open during business hours during the week and from 9:00 am to 9:30 pm on the weekends*
While we are inching toward normal operations, we must also acknowledge that 2020 has not yet released its grasp. So as with many other popular community events this year, we are very disappointed to announce that we must cancel Trunk or Treating as well. If you choose to participate in normal trick or treating on Halloween, we encourage you to celebrate in a safe manner. Please be mindful of those who do not wish to participate (normally the absence of a porch light would suggest trick or treating is not available). For those passing out candy, try providing individually wrapped goodie bags that are lined up to grab and go for social distancing. Do not use a costume mask as a substitute for a cloth mask, instead consider using a Halloween-themed cloth mask. But most importantly, have a safe and happy Halloween!

Good for you. Wish all areas would be as vigilent. The pandemic is in no hurry to leave .
I won’t take no chances. See you when it’s over. Too much activity there for me. I miss Cape Charles, but I want to live to see 2021.
