VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — Today, Congresswoman Elaine Luria announced the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) allocated $2,624,138 in federal COVID-19 relief grants to the City of Virginia Beach and Virginia Port Authority. These grants come from FEMA’s Disaster Fund, which received $45 billion from the CARES Act, which Congresswoman Elaine Luria voted for last year.
“I am pleased to hear FEMA awarded significant grant funding to Virginia Beach and the Virginia Port Authority,” said Congresswoman Elaine Luria. “The COVID-19 pandemic has hit our Coastal Virginia community exceptionally hard, and this financial assistance will help our economy grow back stronger than before.”
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Congresswoman Luria has continued to advocate for additional aid for Coastal Virginia’s localities. Last year, she supported the Coronavirus Community Relief Act, which would provide $250 billion in funding to governments with a population of 500,000 or less. Cities with a population of less than 500,000 include the cities of Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Hampton, and Williamsburg.
